Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior political figure commented the attack left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
