Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
